There are so many different options when it comes to dirt bikes that you may feel confused or overwhelmed on where to even start. Taking others thoughts and opinions is a great way to begin the choosing process but in the end, it comes down to what you plan on doing with it. Owning a dirt bike is a great way to pass the time when out with friends or family as it is such a welcoming sport.
There are many fun and very enjoyable options on what to do with a dirt bike like trail riding, desert riding, track riding, etc. Each setting option just as much fun as the next,
but is it right for you?

Consider: What Style of Riding Do You Want It For?

Thinking about what terrain you will be riding in is a great way to start narrowing down your options. Are you planning to ride in forest trails, dirt tracks, desert trails, etc? Whatever terrain you may decide to ride in be familiar with it and make sure to buy the correct bike for that terrain. Each bike has differences specifically made for these terrains like gearing, ergonomics, fuel tank capacity, suspension and added features like lights make each type of dirt bike the ideal bike for its intended use.

Consider: Will a Dirt Bike Fit Your Lifestyle?

As much fun as dirt bike riding is, you have to remember you’ll need time for this hobby. Without spare time there is no dirt bike riding. Additionally, it can become a little pricey to participate in this hobby, because after a day of riding you’ll want to clean and check minimal features of your bike. Keep in mind if you crash, you’ll need to get that checked right away as it can cause more damage in the future. Also, consider that you’ll need a trailer or truck to take your bike to your destination. Have a safe place to store your dirt bike because unfortunately they can be easily stolen if not stored safely.  And lastly, you’ll need to purchase the necessary gear to ensure the safest riding experiences. If any of these points might be an issue, you may want to reconsider buying a dirt bike.

Consider: What Size Bike Should You Start With?

Typical dirt bike sizes can be assigned based on your height and weight. But another factor to consider is your riding experience. If you are not a well-experienced rider you may want to begin with a smaller size engine bike before jumping the gun and start off on a way too powerful bike. But again if you plan on riding in steep terrain then it may be alright to start off with something with a bit more power.

Consider: What Is Your Budget?

Like we mentioned before, dirt bike riding can cost you a pretty penny at times, if you’re really on a budget but want to participate in this awesome sport we do recommend you begin with a 2-stroke bike over 4-stroke bikes because they are a little cheaper. Most dirt bikes run about the same price as its competitors so just read and research what bike you are most interested in, remember that additional features will run up the price. Also include maintenance cost, gas cost, etc. into your budget as you cannot ride without these items.
