Common Beginner Motorcycle Rider Mistakes
Bert's Mega Mall | Power Sports Hub
Riding a motorcycle is such an exhilarating and adrenaline filled hobby/lifestyle. As a beginner, you may want to rush into this lifestyle because of how fun it is but there are a few things that happen all too often that can be avoided with the proper advice from the right people. Here we’ve pointed out five of the most made mistakes by new riders. All mistakes can be fixed over time with practice and with knowing how to avoid the mistake.
Uneducated on the Rules of the road
As a beginner motorcyclist, you may easily forget about a very important and simple thing you should do before hitting the road with your bike. KNOW the rules of the road for motorcyclist! There are a few differences in the rules for motorcyclist and drivers that could benefit you and reading them is so easy to do so why not! Make sure to read them especially if you are in an unknown or unfamiliar area. The rules handbook may also be a great reminder of something you already knew but forgot of.
Stalling
Stalling your bike is a very common mistake and that beginner motorcycle riders make but it is very easy to fix. With much practice, you just need to master the clutch lever. Mastering the clutch lever will be so simple once you find the friction zone. Once that has been found you will learn to apply enough throttle as you release the clutch the rest of the way.
Following too Close to Vehicles
Another common mistake that beginner motorcyclist do is stay too close to the car in front of you. When riding your motorcycle you should always be planning ahead and be ready for the unexpected. Give yourself space to brake or easily get out of an unwanted situation involving an unaware driver.
Taking a Passenger or Going on a Group Ride Before Being Ready!
Something we all want to do is take on a passenger, from the very first moment some of us cannot wait to show off our new bike. You may forget to take in account that having a passenger with you can significantly change the way your bike feels, it’ll change what you are typically used to and being unprepared or not completely knowing how to control your bike could result in a very bad and unwanted situation. Riding in a group is not recommended for a beginner because you may feel pressure to keep up with riders who are a little more advanced. We just recommend you riding solo for a while until you completely know your bike and are confident in what you’re doing.
Wrong Size Motorcycle
We all like to think that we are ready for something when in actuality we are not. It is totally ok with starting off with a smaller bike than some of your other fellow rider friends. You’ll easily become a better rider when starting off small because it’ll give you some time to work on your technique, help you figure out what is more comfortable, and where you like to position yourself(etc.) You’ll get to know your motorcycle very well.
Overall, you’re a beginner rider and the most important thing to keep in mind is to be cautious. Making a mistake here and it is unavoidable, but causing them to happen over and over again with no improvement is. Keeping these things in mind will save you some time of what to expect as a beginner and you’ll be ahead of the game by knowing what to avoid and be aware of. Take these tips and apply them to your new motorcycle lifestyle, you’ll be great in no time!
