Quick Tip:

Before even attempting to wheelie, know which type of wheelie you’ll be attempting. There are two types of wheelies—the standing wheelie, where you begin at a stop and the power wheelie, where you are already moving. The standing wheelie is a good choice for a beginner.

Body Position!

Understanding where your body needs to be is very important! Your upper body should be in a neutral position and arms should be holding on to the handlebars as usual. The lower body is more of a focus when wheeling. You’ll want to scoot yourself back on the seat—not too far back but not too far forward. You’ll want to be closer to the back of the seat, making the front end a little lighter.

Rider tip: Keep your foot over the rear brake and if you feel you’re going to fall lightly tap the front brake to bring the bike down.

Knowing Your Gears!

Begin with a comfortable idling speed then pull your front brake a little to rough load the front end and then as the front end begins to come up you’ll let the clutch out and then the front brake out a bit and also give it a little bit of gas at the same time. Practice using only ¼ throttle in 1st gear when slowly learning.

Rider tip: You will feel you need to adjust as you wheelie so start off in a familiar position and then find your balance. And also know how much throttle is the right amount of it!

Practice

The only way to master something completely is to practice! After a fair bit of practice, you’ll find you can change through the gears as you go and hold the wheelie for as long as you like. There’s a sweet spot – or balancing point where the bike feels weightless. Once you've felt this you’ll feel very accomplished!

Following all of these tips will get you on the road to success and in no time you'll master a wheelie. Remember that learning a move like this takes time and also confidence. But once you've got it down you'll feel great!
