Scooters are now becoming more and more popular for daily commuters. It can definitely be a tough decision to ditch the car for a scooter after having it for so long but there are many benefits to owning a scooter over a car. Knowing whether a scooter fits in your lifestyle can be a tough decision, but this blog should help you narrow down which is more favorable for you. Scooters do not win in every category but can certainly be seen more favorable when the facts are on the table. We’ve chosen 10 categories we feel are important to consider when making the decision of whether a car or a scooter is right for you.

Price Range:

Pricing on a scooter over a car is a major difference. Scooters will cost significantly less than a car, which even includes scooters that can hit highway traffic speeds. The average rate for a four-door sedan now is $34,000 and a scooter has an average price of about $3300. Each of these motor vehicles can be found for a lot less or a lot more but either way we notice that there is a huge difference in the pricing and scooters are a lot cheaper. Not only is the scooter cheaper but also the maintenance, insurance, and gas is much cheaper than a car! Going with a scooter will definitely save you a pretty penny.

Winner: Scooter

MPG:

Mileage per gallon is a great way to start when asking yourself what is a better option for you. There are many cars out there that have way better gas mileage than another car but there are scooters out there that have unbelievable gas mileage! Our cars currently have an average of 24.7 miles per gallon and a scooter on the cheaper side of the spectrum has an MPG of 117! If you are a daily commuter then the scooter is the way to go! Not to mention the average cost to fill a scooter up is about $7.00 versus a car at an average cost of $50! Again, the scooter is more favorable when it comes to mileage.

Winner: Scooter

Commuting:

Next topic we think you should base your decision on is whether or not you are a daily commuter. We want to make sure that whatever you choose fits your lifestyle. Commuting is not cheap and as we’ve mentioned before these scooters get excellent MPG. Whether you are commuting to work, school, or just cruising around, the motor scooter can take you to and from your destination without hurting your wallet with high gas prices. You might even be able to find parking a little easier!

Winner: Scooter

Freeway Use/Long Distance:

So far the scooter has won every category, but we do want to point out some things that the scooter may not be the best option for. Depending on the CC’s of your scooter you may not want to use it for the freeway. You can legally ride a 150cc scooter on the freeway but with so much traffic around you and many drivers going at higher speeds than 60mph we do not recommend doing that. Cars offer the comfort of being enclosed in a larger body and you also get to go a little faster than you would on the scooter. For long distance drives, think about what you are looking for. If you’d rather be comfortable then a car may be the better option, but if you’d like to save some gas then a scooter is the better choice. Cars make freeway use and driving long distances a little easier and comfortable.

Winner: Car

Storage Capacity:

If you have to carry items with you constantly or maybe have a huge grocery shopping day every week, then a car is the best option for you. Scooters can come with additional storage spaces but can only fit a minimal amount of items. Cars offer you more space than a scooter can and make your life a little easier. We’d also like to mention that scooters cannot haul any lightweight or heavyweight trailers or have racks above them as a sedan or truck could do. Your options are very limited when it comes to carrying certain items around on a scooter. That being said, a car is the better option when it comes to carrying or storing more with you.

Winner: Car

Parking:

Normally motorcycles and scooters have exclusive parking areas where no one but they can park there. Meaning that you won’t be driving around for 20 minutes looking for a spot to come up. Also, sometimes if you have to pay to park in a parking structure, the price of the ticket may be cheaper than it would be for a car. Scooters are easier to park and go. It is also easier to get on and leave to your next destination.

Winner: Scooter

Learning Curve:

Scooter are definitely the easiest motorcycle to learn how to ride because a very large majority of them are automatic but when it comes to this category we believe the car is going to take it. Leaning to drive an automatic car tends to be easier because you can just sit there and hit the gas and then brake and check your mirrors and you’re good. With scooters, you have to keep in mind that you will be trying to balance and make sure you are seen by other drivers. It is also very important to be very alert of your surroundings when driving any vehicle but you may have trouble trying to focus on balancing, riding your scooter, and watching around you at all times. Cars are typically the easier one to learn.

Winner: Car

Maintenance:

We have to keep in mind that we will have to maintain whatever we are driving or riding. Maintaining a scooter is by far way cheaper and more affordable than maintaining a car. Parts are cheaper for scooters and typically do not take too long depending on what you are doing to it. For example, if you need to change out tires it can be done within minutes versus a car something you have to make appointments to do a task as simple as that. Anything you need to be done on a scooter is done faster and cheaper than a car.

Winner: Scooter

Engine/Power:

If you love engine power or just a lot of power in general a car is your best bet! Scooters can deliver a lot of power but not as much and as fast as a car might. Scooters may take a little longer to achieve overall power and speed. We are not saying there are not powerful scooters out there but only that cars are way more powerful in every sense.

Winner: Car

What Is More, Fun to Ride/Drive?

Scooters! Scooters are way more fun to ride than a car! Think about the wind running through your face or getting underneath your helmet. Scooters offer you a more interactive experience with the road and get to be different from everyone else on the road.

Winner: Scooter

Scooters win!

Scooters are a great economical option! They’re fun, unique, and can save you tons of time and money. Each of these categories is important to keep in mind when making your decisions on whether you want a scooter. But overall the scooter wins between them. We hope this helped you make a clear decision to go with the scooter! Happy riding!
