If you ask any off-road enthusiast to name you the greatest All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) of all time, they will more than likely say the Yamaha Banshee.  Built in 1987, the Yamaha Banshee was a unique ATV because it had a 2-stroke engine. Its great powerband, a version of the motor that powered Yamaha's beloved RZ350 street bike, has been the basis for its great following. Although a great ATV, the Banshee was stopped being made in 2006 due to U.S. Regulations. More than a decade has passed since the final year of the famous Yamaha Banshee, but its followers of the outrageous twin-cylinder, two-stroke, six-speed, high-performance sports quad haven’t let their enthusiasm for the machine demise.

Here are 5 reasons why the Yamaha Banshee will never die and is still one of the most popular ATVs today.

Best Quad for the Dunes:

The Yamaha Banshee is considered to be one of the best quads for the sand dunes. It’s not obvious that the Banshees are no longer being made because you still see a great amount being ridden in the dunes today. Its great powerband makes the rider fly right off the seat while holding on to the handlebars. The sound and gut feeling of cracking the throttle on a twin-cylinder 2-stroke was unparalleled back in 1987, and arguably still to this day. Even as more high-performance 4-stroke quads are being made today, the Banshee is still the quad of choice for many duners.

Easy Maintenance:

Just because the Yamaha Banshee is a 2-stroke sports quad does not mean the maintenance is hard. It is actually pretty easy to maintain it and many say it is much easier to maintain than the newer 4-stroke quads. You need to have the basic mechanical skills to maintain a Banshee. One thing you must maintain in the air filter sealed and cleaned because the life of any sports ATV is getting clean air. Dirt, dust, and sand getting into these small engines can be destructive. Do not let internet rumors and scare you away from owning one of the most popular ATVs of all time, the maintenance is just as easy as any other sports quad you could own.

You Can Modify It:

The Yamaha Banshee was first built in 1987, and not much changes were made to it because the 2006 version was fairly similar to the original. Since the Banshee has been discontinued, Banshee owners turn to aftermarket parts to maintain their ATV. Banshee-loving aftermarket parts suppliers continue to offer countless ways to keep the machines running strong, or much, much stronger than stock if that’s what you desire.

The Bulletproof Banshee:

A lot of enthusiasts can say that the Yamaha Banshee is indestructible. They have not been made since 2006 and a lot of them are still hitting up the dunes like if it was brand new. A properly rebuilt banshee engine lasts almost as long if not longer then some of the modern 4-stroke quads of today. Yamaha never changed much on the Banshee throughout its long production run which means the quad was made long lasting and it has proven so.

Endless FUN:

It is the perfect quad for the dunes and with all the aftermarket options our right now, you can modify it however you want. If you are an off-road enthusiast, you must ride a Yamaha Banshee and experience the thrill everyone is talking about.
